It found that the VDF assists police in maintaining law and order, with volunteers trained and assigned duties alongside the police. However, details on service conditions were lacking. Further research led the court to an office memorandum on VDF conditions and a related case, Nasim Bano v. The State of Manipur & Ors. The court concluded that the petitioner's disengagement violated natural justice principles, as established in the Nasim Bano case. Consequently, the order was set aside, and the petitioner was reinstated.
