BioSpectrum Asia outlines Vietnam’s efforts to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its healthcare sector as part of its broader national development strategy. Vietnam has identified AI as a key driver for economic growth and innovation, aiming to contribute $79.3 billion to its economy by 2030.

The government has launched initiatives like the National Strategy on AI, which includes establishing AI research centers, promoting AI startups, and training 5,000 AI engineers. Partnerships with global leaders such as Google are helping accelerate these efforts through scholarships and startup accelerator programs.

AI is being used in healthcare for diagnostics, personalized treatments, and disease prevention. Companies like VinBrain and Gene Solutions are leading these efforts by developing AI tools for early disease detection and genomics-based medicine. AI-powered platforms are also being used to screen populations for diseases, providing more accessible healthcare solutions.

Despite these advancements, challenges remain. The public healthcare system lags behind the private sector in adopting AI due to limited funding, outdated infrastructures, and resistance to change. Experts stress the need for a comprehensive legal framework to address ethical concerns, data privacy, and governance, which are critical for public trust.

Vietnam’s commitment to AI-driven healthcare innovation positions it as a leader in Southeast Asia, with the potential to influence global healthcare trends.
