Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) in Punjab, in collaboration with the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL), hosted an international conference focusing on artificial intelligence (AI), ethics, and sustainability. The event brought together leading legal scholars, policymakers, and AI researchers to discuss the evolving regulatory landscape surrounding AI technologies.

One of the central themes of the conference was the intersection of AI regulation and ethical considerations. Experts emphasized the importance of ensuring fairness and transparency in AI-driven decision-making, particularly in legal, financial, and employment contexts.

Another key topic was the role of AI in environmental sustainability. Researchers discussed how AI can be leveraged to combat climate change, optimize resource use, and promote green technology, while also addressing concerns about the high energy consumption of AI models.

Legal scholars from India and abroad examined case studies from various jurisdictions, comparing AI regulatory approaches in countries such as the United States, the European Union, and China. The discussions highlighted the need for India to develop a comprehensive AI governance framework that aligns with international best practices while addressing local challenges.

The conference also explored the implications of AI in the judiciary, including the use of AI-powered legal research tools and automated case management systems. While AI can improve efficiency, concerns were raised about its impact on due process and human oversight in legal decision-making.

The event concluded with recommendations for policymakers, including the need for stronger AI accountability measures, data protection regulations, and interdisciplinary collaboration between technologists and legal professionals to ensure responsible AI deployment.
