University of Iowa Center for Human Rights – The event, titled “AI, Justice, and Ethics”, is scheduled for April 4, 2025, at the University of Iowa. Organized by the Center for Human Rights (UICHR), this panel discussion brings together academics, lawyers, and students to explore the intersections of artificial intelligence, justice systems, and human rights. It will take place in the Boyd Law Building and is free and open to the public.
Speakers will address how emerging AI technologies impact fairness, accountability, discrimination, and due process. The panel aims to raise awareness of both the benefits and threats posed by AI, particularly in legal contexts such as predictive policing, sentencing algorithms, and surveillance tools.
Emphasis will be placed on ethical considerations, transparency, and inclusivity in algorithm design and deployment. The event also encourages active audience participation and aims to contribute to broader discussions about the legal and moral responsibilities of integrating AI in public decision-making.
