argument: Eventi/Events - Digital Governance

According to an article from 360 Mozambique, South Africa’s Minister of Communications, Mondli Gungubele, announced at a national AI conference that the country plans to introduce legislation to regulate Artificial Intelligence (AI). Highlighting the economic benefits, Gungubele emphasized the need for AI policies and programmes. An AI Expert Advisory Board, led by Vukosi Marivate from the University of Pretoria, will guide the policy-making process. The government aims to leverage AI for economic and social improvements while aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. South Africa seeks to join other African nations in AI strategy, though formal regulations remain scarce.
