argument: Normativa/Regulations - Digital Governance

Bahrain has introduced a  new law aimed at regulating Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. The Shura Council of Bahrain unanimously approved this standalone legislation, which addresses multiple aspects of AI use and its potential misuses. The new law includes provisions for fines and imprisonment for those violating the terms, highlighting the government's proactive approach to handle AI-related issues before they escalate.

The law, comprising 38 articles, was crafted after extensive consultations with various governmental bodies and includes penalties ranging up to three years in prison or fines reaching BD2,000 for specific violations. Key aspects of the law involve the regulation of AI in areas that could affect personal freedoms, privacy, and social norms. There's also a focus on preventing AI from being used for criminal activities, including tampering with personal data like voice features and biometrics.

Significantly, the legislation also mandates compensation by AI developers for any harm caused by their technologies, ensuring accountability. An Artificial Intelligence Unit will be established to oversee the compliance and implementation of administrative penalties.
